Back into the Addiction!

Thanks to some fellow bloggers that I got to play with last night, I am officially back on the wagon with Call of Duty. We had some awesome matches and for once it actually felt like we were operating as a team instead of running around aimlessly like idiots. We won some and we lost some but in the end it was a kick ass night! If you’d like to play with me, my gamertag is ColumbianTolbert on the PS3. I’ll be there probably in a few minutes. If you’re not playing Ghost, let me know which one you are playing and I’ll see if I have it to jump on there with you. Cheers to all of you! Hope you guys are having an awesome Friday! By the way, I survived the dentist…

Reviews for Authors

I had a post a week or two ago about reviewing author’s novels/stories. If you are interested in receiving a review from me, you can contact me here, or through my email. The criteria I base my reviews on are: character development, plot development, and mechanics. I would be highly interested in helping you. I base my reviews on a 5 star scale.

5 Stars- Amazing, engrossing, page turner

4 Stars- Well written, nice plot

3 Stars- A balance between nice and needs work.

2 Stars- Needs work. Couldn’t finish it.

1 Star- Bored to death, needs editing, and terrible character development.

That’s my grade scale, and I will also try to balance my likes and dislikes about a novel. Also I mostly review, horror/science fiction/literature fiction/occasionally romance. I am open for more genres, but those are my favorite ones to review. If you have any questions, you may contact me at anytime. It may take a few for me to respond, but I will get to you eventually, and if I don’t. Send me another request after 30 days.

I will post my reviews on the kindle website or which ever website you would like my reviews on. I will have more descriptive reviews on here though.

The Interesting Things I’ve Accumulated

2014-08-21 23.55.19

This is my display of some of my graphic novels from The Walking Dead. I also have an abundance of comic books on the top shelf in my office but they weren’t as appealing as this bad boy!

Here’s my Lord of the Rings signatures. The top one is a screenplay signed by the cast, and the bottom one is the two actors I didn’t get signatures from in the top one. I got these 3 pictures/ screenplays at Dragon Con four or five years ago.

I bought this piece because Charles Adlard (The artist for some of Kirkman’s Walking Dead Comics) made this. I still haven’t framed it, but it’s a fantastic piece for my Walking Dead collection!

This is an Assassin’s Creed poster for Black Flag. I like this because it was made by Todd McFarlane (Another artist that drew for Robert Kirkman)

And my most prized piece is the Stormtrooper helmet. I won this baby from my photographer when I donated to her friend’s charity. I love this because I mean, it’s Star Wars, nothing is more beautiful than this sitting on top of the shelf in your office while you find those inspiring words.

As you can see, I’m a bit of a nerd, but I love collecting things. It’s growing to be an almost dangerous hobby! Hope you guys enjoyed!

The Walking Dead

I freaking love the Walking Dead. I don’t know if it is because it is set in my hometown, or that it is nothing like the zombie norm that I have ever seen. I don’t want to say that I am intrigued by the drama but in all honesty, I am. I mean, Robert Kirkman is my hero when it comes to the comic books. Now, the show has even made me more in love of with the zombie universe that he has created. Let me take you through a few highlights of why I love the show and comic book so much… (SPOILERS!)

Okay, if you haven’t noticed already from all three of these comic selections from the Walking Dead, THE GORE. I mean, what makes Robert’s world of Walkers so crazy is the fact the humans are actually killing each other. If you’re asking yourself, “Why the hell would they want to kill each other?” Well, the answer is…

A safe place to shelter themselves from the grotesque creatures that want to devour the innards of the human body. Everyone in the comic is always on a constant journey to find a home. Somewhere they can be safe and not have to worry about being killed by walkers. It seems like there is never a place that anyone can hide from these things. The reason being is that we all have the virus inside of us. So say, an elderly man dies of a heart attack, he doesn’t have any bites, and it’s all from natural causes. He will still turn into one of the walking dead. It’s almost an endless battle to survive because once we kill each other, we just come back to life ready to rip a jugular from our enemies throat. It’s freaking insane!!

Rick Grimes is the main protagonist in this story and the Walking Dead staff, producers, and directors did it right when they cast Andrew Lincoln. I mean, how could you go wrong with an actor with a British accent. Andrew plays the role perfectly. A sheriff trying to find his family in the midst of an ever growing apocalypse. He has to face a lot of challenges along the way, but he some how gets through them with his wit and survival skills.

He also seems to be the only one that actually DOES WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO SURVIVE! If you watch the show or read the comics, he is the only character that actually puts his group before anyone else. Except his son and wife of course. Them two are his main concern. He kills his best friend, he locates safe places and forces his group to keep moving on, he also has a knack from running into weird characters on the road.

There are so many things that I could write that explain how awesome this story is but it all is going to still come down to the things I have already written. The virus being inside us already, the character drama, and just the casting. The casting was almost spot on with every character. I would suggest at least checking out the show if not the comic book. Both have different story lines but they are both very fun and interesting. I know Nadine and I make it a point to have the show recorded or be off work during the marathons on television.

Just remember, “Kill the Dead, Fear the Living.” quoted by Rick Grimes. Be safe!

Haunting the Shadows

He walks in the shadows waiting for his prey to play.
The shadows are haunted by his presence everyday.
The eyes of his enemies look carefully, weary of their fate.
Although, they may think they are safe, he will wait.
His strength will overcome the armies of his closest enemies,
But his desire to kill will burn much less every time he speaks to thee.

He roams the streets all day causing devastation.
His mind is after the men who cause abominations.
The soldiers live their life in fright from his determination.
The fire burns in his eyes as he continues his excavation.
No one can stop him and keep him locked up incarceration.
He will change the world in the events of another assassination.

The assassin peers down from the tower at the guards below.
He waits for the monarch to come out of the tall wooden doors.
The days fly by and it was like yesterday that his family were ceased.
His father and brothers murder, while his mother and sister are overseas .
Ten years have passed and still there are more questions yet to be answered.
Still the men that broke his family are free and continuing the conspiracy.

They thought justice could be found in trial,
But justice was made when the assassin came to town.

The Impact of People

Guess who is finally awake?! Me!

I had to close at work last night. It was pretty busy. A lot of people coming in to buy the last of the buy one, get one free mixed fruit. I will say, I don’t know if anyone except the people who actually have to cut this stuff up really know how much work is involved in making these bowls. Here’s the recipe: 1/4 of cantaloupe, 1/4 of watermelon, 1/4 of honeydew, 2 pineapple chunks, three red/ white seedless grapes, 2 strawberry slices. This is just for the small mixed fruit. Medium, large, and extra large bowls are double, triple, and quadruple those ingredients. So now that we have the ingredients, we have to forecast these suckers on a sheet of paper. We ended up having to cut almost 100-200 of these bowls a day, excluding the large and x-large. Those were only 8-10 bowls. It can be a rough job, but I think that cutting fruit is the most relaxing part of it. I usually enjoy doing this only because it’s relaxing to just chop away all day.

Anyways, last night I watched the result show to America’s Got Talent with Nadine and I’m extremely happy with a few of the results. They say that everyone has a talent, which in theory is true, but my talent, I would like to think is writing. I can play music too, but it has been so long since I’ve been on a stage or even picked up a guitar, I don’t know if I still have the skill set.

I miss those days. It feels like it was only yesterday I was choking on the smoke in the front row, while I was trying to sing. I also miss my lead guitarist who is currently in Korean. He has always been my best friend since we ran into each other in high school, became music buddies, and now, he will be my best man at my wedding( whenever that may be.) Luke is an awesome guy with a lot of talent, who is serving in the Army, and it’s an honor to know someone like him.

I’d like to say this is the cover of my book. It’s already out. You can find it on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and’s websites. I haven’t talked much about it because I’m not wanting to use this blog as an advertising tool. I just know I’ve had a few people emailing me about this “Book” I have lingering in the digital world.

I know I don’t talk much about Nadine, but I have to say she is an amazing woman. She keeps my spirits up when I’m down. She supports me in whatever venture I want to take in my life. We’ve been together for four wonderful years, yes we have had those few fights, but we always pull out of it. There hasn’t been a day, where I couldn’t see myself not being with her. I remember meeting her in a pizza parlor when I was performing in a band. I didn’t want to go out that night because I was just going through some stupid crap in my head. My buddy Luke convinced me though. I headed out to the pizza place with my drummer, Garrett, at the time (We’ll get to him in another post.) I arrived there and saw Nadine sitting with her aunt and her cousin. (I knew her aunt and cousin so I was texting them throughout the whole night.)

Honestly, it’s tough to say exactly what was going through my head at that moment, I just knew that I wanted to know this girl. I wanted to be able to hold her hand, or at least have a nice conversation with her. I remember it took a while for me to get the courage to talk to her. I was a bit of a shy guy. I actually thought she was more into Garrett because they were talking a decent amount. I think I told her about that and she said “Um no, he is way too young.” Anyways, I performed that night, I met Nadine, and asked her out on a date.

There’s many things that happen in life that you don’t understand why. Sometimes it could be the death of a family member, or simply running into a new best friend that has had a huge impact on your life. I’ve also come to realize that for some reason we live in a very small world, where everyone seems to connect on different levels. If I hadn’t of met Luke and Nadine, I don’t know where I would be at right now.

I met Luke in high school, we created a band, he knew Nadine’s aunt and cousin, I met Nadine, and somehow this has been the longest lasting relationship I have ever had. Is there a higher being that pulls everyone together for a reason, or is our life written spontaneously as we live it? I don’t know which is true, but I like to think that my life is being written by me, not by someone else. I don’t want to shoot down anyone’s theories, but we make up our own future, our own dreams, and our own destiny. That is the beauty of being alive, the old and the new.
